Balloon flag of France. Drapeau français à partir de ballons

(Русская версия)

Supplies: balloons, an air pump and scissors.
We can use different type of balloon fabric to make flags. In the following instruction we are going to make balloon flag of France in a shape of hat. Inflate three (blue, white and red) balloons leaving about 11 cm flat tails (Pic 1 and 2).

I am going to twist all bubbles of the same about 6 cm size (Pic 3).

Twist a chain of the first four bubbles (Pic 4).

Lock both ends of the chain of the first four bubbles in one lock (Pic 5).

Twist a chain of the next three blue bubbles (Pic 6).

Lock both ends of the last four bubbles in one lock twist. You have to pull the rest of the balloon through the loop of the first four bubbles (Pic 7).

Twist a chain of the next three bubbles (Pic 8).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last eight bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 9).

Twist a chain of the next three bubbles (Pic 10).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last twelve bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 11).

Twist a chain of the next three bubbles (Pic 12).

Lock both ends of the chain of the first sixteen bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 13). Cut off the rest of the balloon and tie off the end. We have made a square shape blue tile out of sixteen bubbles. We can connect this kind of tiles to make balloon sculptures and decorations of different shapes. In this example I am going to use it to make the flag of France.

Twist a chain of four white bubbles. Lock both ends of the chain of the first four white bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 14).

Twist a chain of the next two white bubbles. We are going to make the white tile and at the same time attach it to the blue tile (Pic 15).

Lock the free end of the last white bubble at the edge between any two blue bubbles. You have to pull the rest of the white balloon through the loop of blue bubbles. Twist the next white bubble (Pic 16).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last four white bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 17).

Twist the next white bubble. Lock the free end of the last white bubble between the two blue bubbles on the same side of the blue tile (Pic 18).

Twist the next two white bubbles. Lock both ends of the chain of the last eight white bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 19). We have attached the white tile to the blue tile.

Twist a chain of the next three white bubbles (Pic 20).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last twelve white bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 21).

Twist a chain of the next three white bubbles (Pic 22).

Lock both ends of the chain of the first sixteen white bubbles in one lock twist. Cut off the rest of the white balloon and tie off the end (Pic 23). We have made white tile and it's attached to the blue tile.

Twist a chain of the first four red bubbles. Lock both ends of the chain of the first four bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 24).

Twist a chain of the next two red bubbles (Pic 25).

Lock the free end of the last red bubble between two white bubbles on the opposite side from the blue tile. You have to pull the rest of the red balloon through the loop of white bubbles (Pic 26).

Twist the next red bubble (Pic 27).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last four red bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 28).

Twist the next red bubble (Pic 29).

Lock the free end of the last red bubble between a pair of white bubbles on the same side of the white tile (Pic 30).

Twist a chain of the next two red bubbles (Pic 31).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last eight red bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 32).

Twist a chain of the next two red bubbles (Pic 33). We can work in this fashion to make rectangular shape out of three tiles (or more tiles if you want). I want to make it as a hat. For this purpose we have to attach the edge of the last (red) tile to the edge of first (blue) tile.

Lock the free end of the last red bubble between two blue bubbles on the opposite end of the sculptures (Pic 34).

Twist the next red bubble (Pic 35).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last twelve red bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 36).

Twist the next red bubble. Lock the last red bubble between the two blue bubbles on the same side of the blue tile (Pic 37).

Twist the next two red bubbles (Pic 38).

Lock both ends of the chain of the first sixteen red bubbles in one lock twist. Cut off the rest of the red balloon and tie of the end. Congratulations! We have made the balloon flag of France in a shape of a hat (Pic 39 - 44). Have fun and happy twisting :)
