Balloon mermaid


Materials: three balloons; an air pump, scissors and a permanent marker.

Inflate a pink balloon leaving a six—inch flat tail (Pic 1).

The first bubble you twist to make the head. Twist the first two—inch bubble (Pic 2).

The next five bubbles you twist to make arms. Twist the second four—inch bubble (Pic 3).

Twist the third soft one—inch bubble (Pic 4).

Twist the fourth one—inch bubble (Pic 5). We will pop the fourth bubble later.

Twist the fifth soft one—inch bubble (Pic 6).

Twist the sixth four—inch bubble (Pic 7).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last five bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 8). This step is marked with arrows between points B and G on the scheme 1.

Lock both ends of the 3rd bubble in one lock twist (Pic 9). This step is marked with arrows between points B and C on the scheme 1.

Lock both ends of the 5th bubble in one lock twist (Pic 10). This step is marked with arrows between points D and E on the scheme 1.

Use a black balloon to make hair. Inflate the black balloon leaving a seven—inch flat tail (Pic 11).

Lock the nozzle of the black balloon between the head and arms bubbles (point B on the scheme 1) of the pink balloon (Pic 12).

Twist the first soft two—inch bubble of the black balloon (Pic 13).

Lock the free end of the first black bubble (point B on the scheme 2) with the nozzle (point A on the scheme 1) of the pink balloon (Pic 14).

Twist the second black soft one—inch bubble (Pic 15).

Lock both ends of the second black bubble in one lock twist (Pic 16). This step is marked with arrows between points B and C on the scheme 2.

Twist the third black soft two—inch bubble (Pic 17).

Lock both ends of the chain of the first three black bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 18 and 19). This step is marked with arrows between points A and D on the scheme 2.


Twist the fourth black three—inch bubble to make the pony tail (Pic 20).

Cut off the rest of the black balloon and tie off the end (Pic 21). You have made the head and arms.

Twist the seventh pink four—inch bubble (Pic 22). It’s the body.

Cut off the rest of the pink balloon and tie off the end. You have made the mermaid body (Pic 23 through 26). Use a permanent marker to draw the face.




You can use the mermaid body to make many different dollsYou may need to twist different size arms bubbles depending on what you are going to use this body for. Use a green balloon to make the tail. Inflate the green balloon leaving a three—inch flat tail (Pic 27).

Twist the first soft two—inch bubble (Pic 28).

Lock both ends of the first bubble in one lock twist (Pic 29). This step is marked with arrows between points A and B on the scheme 3.

Twist the second soft two—inch bubble (Pic 30).

Lock both ends of the 2nd bubble in one lock twist (Pic 31). This step is marked with arrows between points B and C on the scheme 3.

Twist the third eleven—inch bubble (Pic 32).

The next 3 bubbles you twist to make a fin. Twist the fourth four—inch bubble (Pic 33).

Twist the fifth four—inch bubble (Pic 34).

Twist the sixth four—inch bubble (Pic 35).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last three (the fourth through the sixth) bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 36). This step is marked with arrows between points D and E on the scheme 3.

Twist the seventh eleven—inch bubble (Pic 37).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last five (the second through the seventh) bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 38). This step is marked with arrows between points C and F on the scheme 3. The rest of the balloon is the eighth bubble.

You can cut off the eighth bubble and tie off the end (Pic 39).

Braid/wave the seventh and the second bubbles around each other (Pic 40).

You have made the body and the tail (Pic 41).

Lock the free end of the seventh pink bubble between the first and the second green bubbles (Pic 42 through 46). Congratulations, you have made the mermaid. Have fun and happy twisting :)
